Client-Side Binary PDF Processing Architecture

Portable Document Format (PDF), created by Adobe Systems in 1993 and maintained under ISO 32000, is a postscript-derived binary format that encapsulates fonts, vector paths, and raster imagery into cross-platform containers.

How Local Browser Document Merging Works

Historically, merging PDF documents required uploading files to an Apache or Nginx server running ghostscript, pdftk, or poppler binaries. With modern WebAssembly and JavaScript typed arrays (Uint8Array, ArrayBuffer), the client browser directly traverses the cross-reference tables (XREF) of donor documents, copies page dictionary objects, and generates a new linearized PDF tree without transmitting a single byte over the public internet.
